Budget and Projects

I am plugging along in my grocery budget. I have managed to lower the weekly food bill by about $50-$75. Some weeks are better than others. Shopping the ads is the secret, plus I receive great coupons from Ralphs in the mail periodically. I can't always count on those though, because I don't always need those things. But everything helps. Last week I didn't as well as the past two months, but menu planning is essential.
I also have tried a new sourdough bread recipe that is Yum! The family loves it! I have made yogurt twice so far. it seems to last about two weeks. We are using it for smoothies mainly. I love it plain with nuts and a little honey.

As far as the projects go, well you'll see what I've been busy with lately.

  1. What a fun blog! I love reading your thoughts and ideas. I feel the same way as far as menu planning (i.e. we love fresh produce, and I hate cooking from a box or frozen meal). When we moved to this island I was so excited to get lots of fresh, delicious island fruit. Not so. We do get a lot of bananas, but all our other produce is bought at Costco for about $2 a pound. It's killing our budget! And sales are non-existent. The mentality is: if they have it, you better grab it before it's gone. Last week I bought 2 lbs of strawberries as a special treat for $6.99! Needless to say, my grocery bill has doubled since moving here. But I love your ideas for being frugal. Thanks for the tips.
